Water Storage Project

Pilas for Tehuiste

In collaboration with Tehuiste’s Water Committee and local community development organization, the ADESCO, CdA is working with 40 families to install a pila in each family’s home.  A pila is unique to El Salvador and functions as a water storage receptacle and sink all at once. It is used to store water when supplies are low. Additionally, it is used to wash dishes and clothes, and is considered a standard in Salvadoran homes. At least 40 families in Tehuiste do not have access to a pila, but with piping now connecting the newly perforated well, pilas will be essential to using this precious water source efficiently.

CdA never gives pilas away for free. Each family pays $10, helping offset the cost of $45/pila.
